Teams

Pit Farm runs a number of men’s, ladies and mixed teams in the Chaucer, Surrey, Woking , National and Peugeot Leagues.  Representing Pit Farm in the teams gives members the opportunity of playing a high standard of tennis against a variety of tennis clubs, giving us the chance of pitting our skills against others on a number of different court surfaces.

Most Surrey and Chaucer matches are played on Sunday mornings with some on Saturday mornings. All the veteran matches in both Surrey and Chaucer leagues are played mid-week. Woking league matches are played on Saturday mornings in the Winter league and mid-week evenings in the Summer league.  For home matches, we tend to commence at 11a.m. at the latest so as not to impact too greatly on club afternoons.

To see the schedule of matches, please consult the calendar on the club notice board in our club house.  Match results are recorded on the same notice board.  In addition, there is a Chaucer web site where the organizers hold the latest results and the league tables.  This can be accessed by going to:  www.chaucerleague.net/

Whilst competitive, the overriding experience of our teams in these leagues is that the level of sporting behaviour and etiquette is high.  You are never absolutely sure who you are going to play up against, as was experienced by our men’s first team when playing Oxshott 1st team at home on 30th September 2007.  Oxshott’s team included none other than Jeremy Bates and Roger Draper (Chief Executive of the LTA).  Pictured below are Pit Farm’s Tom Paltridge and Paul Carter, alongside Jeremy Bates and his playing partner Adrian Buckland.   All credit to Tom and Paul, as they managed to get many games on the scoreboard in going down 6-3, 6-2.

If you are interested in playing matches and representing Pit Farm in doing so, the best way to go about it is playing club tennis on Tuesdays, Saturdays, Thursdays and Sundays and getting yourself known to the team captains, as listed below.  There are also some ad hoc knockout tournaments – for example the Chaucer Winter Tournament.  More information on these can be found on the Chaucer League web-site or from Richard Clarke, who is the League Chairman.
